BICKFORD, EMMETT, SUMMERS DOUBLE UP AT THE ROCK
17-Hour Marathon Crowns Champs in First Midwest
Jr. Dragster Super Series Race
|
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Concord’s Marissa Bickford was
among three drivers with championship rings on two
different fingers after officials outraced the
weather with a marathon 17 consecutive hours of
Jr. Dragster racing Saturday at Rockingham Dragway.
Bickford, a Rockingham Dragway regular, was joined
by Carson “Big Check” Emmett of Cedar Bluff, Ala.,
and Jackson Summers of Franklin, Ky., as double-up
winners in the inaugural event in the 2018
ProtecttheHarvest.com Midwest Jr. Dragster Super
Series presented by Lucas Oil.
That threesome along with the other Saturday
champions went home not only with purse money and
Lucas Oil products, but distinctive “Big Daddy”
trophies and championship rings specially crafted
by Hayes Jewelers and presented by Roy Hill’s Drag
Racing School and Rockingham Dragway.
Bickford won both the Pro Sportsman A and 7.90
Index titles in her GUNK Engine Cleaner/jrdragsterparts.com
Special while Summers won the 6-9 age group and
the 13.90 Index race. Emmett won the Pro Sportsman
B and 10-12 age group races and just missed out on
a third title when he was beaten by Blake Combs of
Bluff City, Tenn., in the 8.90 final.
Nathan Prose of Terre Haute, Ind., walked away
with all the hardware in the featured Quick 16
class, Alexis Tanner of Rensselaer, Ind., won in
Outlaw 330 and Landon Palmer of Scottsville, Va.,
was the Sportsman winner. Blaine Todd won the
11.90 Index title and Sadie Wilks took home the
trophy and ring in the 13-and-up age group.
The series next moves to Indianapolis for a May 11
event at Lucas Oil Raceway. Television coverage of
the Rockingham event, made possible through
sponsorship by Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School, will
air on MAVTV Motorsports at a date to be
determined.
