SLOAN WINS ONE FOR HOME TEAM IN LUCAS OIL SERIES
FINALE
Former World Champ Strickland Prevails in Top
Dragster; Puckett in Competition

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. Broadways Hillary Sloan was
the only Carolina winner Sunday in the concluding
event in the NHRAs Southeast Division Lucas Oil
Drag Racing Series at Rockingham Dragway.
In a Super Stock field that included a multitude
of NHRA national event winners including veteran
David Rampy of Piedmont, Ala., Sloan drove her
Plymouth Duster past the 1990 Chevy Camaro of
national series winner Bryan Worner of Dunnigan,
Pa., in the final round.
The other titles went to drivers from
Pennsylvania, Alabama, New York, Maryland, Georgia
and Massachusetts.
Jeff Strickland of Red Bay, Ala., the 2016 Lucas
Oil World Champion in both the Top Dragster and
Stock Eliminator categories, came away with only
one trophy this time, beating Greg Gallagher of
Deltona, Fla., in the Top Dragster finale.
Van Puckett of Monroe, Ga., upended Frank Aragona
Jr. of Freehold, N.J., in a final round duel
between 2018 national event winners to claim the
Comp Eliminator title; Vonnie Mills of
Kennedyville, Md., won in Top Sportsman after Mt.
Ullas Sandy Wilkins, the Division 2 point leader,
was upset in the second round; and Mike Robilotto
of Albany, N.Y., a winner earlier this year in
NHRA national events at Epping, N.H., and Reading,
Pa., used a starting line advantage to get past
Michelle Furr of Galax, Va., in the Super Comp
final.
In the companion Moser Sportsman Shootout event
contested Friday, Jonathan Anderson of Williamson,
Ga., won the money without even turning a tire in
the final round.
Anderson, the Super Comp winner earlier this year
in the Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, his
home track, qualified two cars for the Shootout
and took them both to the final round, making a
final round race both unnecessary and impossible.
It was the first such occurrence in the history of
the Moser Shootout in which drivers from a variety
of sportsman disciplines race against one another
to determine a single winner.
