- Robert Morris of
Fayetteville won the Wild
Street class Saturday at
Rockingham Dragway during
the annual Holcomb
Motorsports Fall Ford
event. Morris drove his
1998 Mustang to victory in
the final round over the
1992 Mustang of Derrick
Sercy, Sanford. Morris
turned the eighth mile in
5.200 seconds at 138.22
miles per hour to Sercy’s
losing 5.278, 119.52.
Robert Agee of Danville,
Va., and Rich Alford of
Latta, S.C. were the
semi-finalists.
Morris was the number four
qualifier and received a
gift in the semi final round
against number one
qualifier, Alford. Alford
set low time in qualifying
with a 5.169 time at 140.02
miles per hour, but left the
starting line too soon
against Morris and
redlighted his chances away.
Sercy, the second quickest
in qualifying at 5.210, set
low time of the event and
top speed of the day in the
semi final round at 5.071
seconds, 145.80. Easily
the favorite, Sercy was beat
in the final when his 1992
Mustang lost traction at the
finish line and turned
sideways, forcing him to
abort the run and to hand
the win to Morris.
Kevin Robinson of
Blythewood, S.C. won the
Index Class over Mike
Frazier of Staley when
Frazier red-lighted, or
fouled his chances away.
Timmy Brown of Carthage and
Lonnie Plyler of Statesville
were the semi finalists.
Dale Sanders of Eagle
Springs won the Open Comp
category in his 1991 Mustang
defeating Daniel Frazier of
Ramseur in the final.
Benjie Loftis of Roxboro and
Shane Williams of Knoxville,
Tenn. were the semi
finalists
Williams won the Pro Tree
Doorslammers class, beating
Rockingham’s Will McKay in
the final. Other winners
were David Cole of Sophia in
the Footbrake class and
Thurman Warren, Dunn, in the
Trophy class.
