ROCKINGHAM - South Carolina racers representing Greer Dragway took home the IHRA Summit Team Finals Championship by winning more rounds of competition over ten other Atlantic Coast dragstrips.  

Over 500 racers representing eleven  IHRA Division Nine tracks competed in the annual event held at Rockingham Dragway over  four days of racing.  Sunday’s main event awarded one point for each individual win with Greer accumulating a total of 74 points.  The team comprising of forty eight competitors from Mooresville Dragway took second place racking up 58 points.  Richmond Dragway out of Virginia finished third with 54 points, Maryland International Dragway, the defending champions, finished in   fourth place with 53 points.

Individual winners were Chris Dean of Sanford in Top Eliminator and the runnerup was Ricky Boyette of Turkey. Dean represented Dunn Benson Dragway, Boyette, Fayetteville Dragway.   Modified was won by Richard Alford, Jr., of Raleigh representing Piedmont Dragway and Ronnie Forrester of Greer was the runner-up.

The Jr. Dragster class was won by Brandi Merritt of Chesapeake, Va., Northeast Dragway, over Dylan Stott of Columbus, representing Greer.

Each track champion competed in a special “Race of Champions” run-off with Travis Harvey of  Burlington winning Top Eliminator over J.B. Donati of Sanston, Va., and Mike Marley of Ferguson won Modified over Alford.  Second generation racer Troy Brewer of Shannon won Jr. Dragster over Dylan Stancil of Angier.

A special bonus event was held on Saturday that awarded $10,000 to Harvey for winning Top Eliminator over Danny McManus of Pageland, S.C., $5,000 was awarded to Steve Alford of Angier for winning Footbrake over Rockingham Dragway champion Michael Beard of Seagrove.
