ROCKINGHAM
– Hickory’s Carlos
Cabello, Barry Jenkins of Matthews
and Jason Cole of Eagle Springs were the big
winners in Sunday’s Battle of the Imports
spectacular at Rockingham Dragway.

Cabello used a .267 of a second
starting line advantage to get his 1993
Honda Del Sol to the finish line ahead of
the much quicker 2001 Honda Civic of No. 1
qualifier Russell
Balano of Fayetteville who, a round
earlier had posted quick time (12.211
seconds) and top speed (11303 mph) in the
Street Comp division.
In the final, because of his quicker
reaction time,
Cabello’s slower 12.674 at 108.42 mph
was good enough
to beat Balano’s
12.532 at 114.53 mph by .125 of a second.
Jenkins got a free pass to the Street Stock
title in his 2002 S2000 because, in essence,
he was racing himself. The Matthews
resident entered two cars in the category
and advanced to the final round with both
cars, electing to single in the S2000 for
the win.
Randy Roth of Cornelius driving his 1991
Nissan 300ZX won the Street Tuner title with
a hole shot in Cole, the number 1
qualifier, driving his 1994 Toyota Supra.
Roth was able to hold off Cole's quicker and
faster run with his .122 reaction time hole
shot!!
