RAIN POSTPONES SCHNITZ SUMMER SIZZLER UNTIL NOVEMBER
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. -- Sunday rain spoiled what promised to be a spectacular final day of racing in the Schnitz Summer Sizzler, postponing the completion of the MiRock Superbike Series event until November.
 
Before the rain, Keith Thompson of Upper Darby, Md., set both ends of the True Street series record, a couple of Pennsylvanians battled one another to do the same in the Pro Sport Bike class and Ronnie Procopio beat his wife, Robin, to win the Pro ET title.
 
Thompson, the points leader in True Street, broke the old True Street record of 8.180 seconds by pushing his hybrid Suzuki through the timers in 8.177 seconds at 173.96 miles per hour.
 
In Pro Sport Bike, Anthony Navarro of Royersford, Pa., and Vince Demito of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., qualified 1-2 with times below the existing series record of 7.681 seconds.  Navarro was first at 7.634 and Demito second at 7.673.
 
Defending series champion Dave Norris of Bryans Road, Md., set the qualifying pace in Outlaw Pro Street at 6.983 seconds, 194.18 mph, and Boo Brown of Potomac Falls, Va., won the Street ET title.
 
The race, one of eight comprising the 2008 series, will be completed Nov. 14-17 when the MiRock returns to The Rock for the Lee's Performance Fall Bike Nationals.  The MiRock next moves to Maryland International Raceway for a Fast by Gast event on Oct. 4-5.
