BOWERS, MARSHBURN, MILLER WIN 'VWS AT THE ROCK' TITLES
ROCKINGHAM - Concord's Steve Bowers drove his Karmann Ghia past Clayton
Hollingsworth's Volkswagen-powered dragster in the final round Sunday to win the Super Pro title at the 10th Annual VW's at the Rock event at Rockingham Dragway.

Hollingsworth, from London, Ky., left first with a .026 reaction time but Bowers made up the difference by recording an eighth mile time closer to his target to win by .049 of a second.

Other winners were Corbitt Marshburn of Clinton in Pro ET and Scott Miller of Salisbury, who won Sportsman ET in his Volkswagen dune buggy. The Sportsman final was the closest of the day with Miller using a slightly better reaction time (.039 of a second to .053) to get to the finish line first by just .004 of a second.

Over 60 VW's of all models entered the car show portion of the event with Richard Cash of Raleigh winning the "best of show" award in his 1959 VW Beetle.
