ROCKINGHAM – Al Leggett of Williamston won the Wild Ford class at Rockingham Dragway Saturday during the annual Holcomb Motorsports Spring Fast Fords Fest.

Leggett, driving his 2002 Mustang, beat Robert Agee of Danville, Va. in the final round with an elapsed time of 5.604 seconds at 127.29 miles per hour.  Agee, driving a 1987 Thunderbird, ran a quicker 5.530 time at 126.14  mph on the eighth mile course.  Leggett won by virtue of a quicker reaction time.

Agee upset low qualifier Billy Russell in the semi finals round, 5.704, 114.81 to an out-of-shape 7.280, 76.49.  Russell had qualified with the low time of 5.170  and also set top speed at 154.30.

Donald Norris, Conway, S.C., won the Pro Tree Door Slammers class in his Chevy Monza, putting out defending champion Will McKay of Rockingham.  McKay fouled in the final by .004 in what would have been a great race with Norris running 6.126 off a 6.13 dial in and McKay running 7.279 off of a 7.28 target.

Billy Stephens of Whiteville took top honors in the Footbrake class over John Love of Wade.  Stephens drove his 1987 Mustang to an elapsed time of 6.341, 111.67 with a 6.35 dial in to Love’s losing effort of 6.881, 100.98 off of a 6.90 dial in.

In Trophy Street, one of two quarter mile classes, Robert Hall of Lemon Springs won over Phil Brady of Lexington.  Hall’s 1993 Mustang ran 13.293 at 98.16 mph off a 13.03 dial in over Brady’s 1987 Mustang’s time of 11.955, 111.40 with a 11.70 dial in.

Clinton Clems of Chapel Hill won the True Class with a series of 10 second times on the quarter mile course.
