Nevertheless, it wasn’t
an easy victory for the Flint, Mich., rider. After slipping past
Ricky Wood of Sims, winner of the June MIRock race, in the first
round, he beat Lillington’s Curtis McDougald and Steve Jester of
Salisbury, Md., to reach the final round for the first time
In the final, Yoder used a .069-.116 starting line advantage to make
his slower 7.273 second run a winner over Slowe’s 7.250. Slowe earlier
set a new national elapsed time record for the class at 7.189 seconds.
Two-time Pro Sport Bike Champion Vince Demito of Plymouth Meeting,
Pa., who moved up in class this season to contest the Pro Street
title, struggled again on a track on which he once seemed unbeatable.
This time he lost in the first round to Taylor Wood of Elizabethtown,
Ky. Wood set the miles per hour record on that win at 200.83.
Nevertheless, he wasn’t the only contender to stumble at The Rock.
Both of the most recent Pro Street finalists, Wood and Dimey Eddinger
of Winston-Salem, also were ousted in the very first round.
Other winners included Jeremy Teasley of Orient, Ohio, in HTP Performance
Real Street, Curtis Griggs of Charlotte in Honda-Suzuki of Sanford Pro
Comp, Anthony Navarro of Royersford, Pa., in Pro Sport Bike, Michael
Rankin of Staunton, Va., in FBR Quick 32 and Danny Cox Sr. of
Yorktown, Va., in the B divison of Real Street.
Teasley set national elapsed time and miles per hour records during
eliminations at 7.886 seconds, 183.05 mph. Runner-up Keith Thompson
of Upper Marlboro, Md., appeared in his fourth final round of the
season. Navarro won his fifth straight Pro Sport Bike race.
The ET class winners were Clay Davies of Petersburg, Va., and Jay
Windsor of Felton, Del., in Nitrous Express Pro; Stanley Russell of
Gray, Ga., and Andy Lynch of West Columbia, S.C., in Schnitz Racing
Street. Windsor won a $500 bonus courtesy of Nitrous Express by
winning the most rounds of the weekend in the Pro ET class.
