STRICKLAND’S NEAR PERFECT PACKAGE EARNS TOP ELIMINATOR HONORS
Alford Just Misses Double-Up in Footbrake at Rockingham Dragway

Tommy Strickland delivered a near-perfect .005 package in the final round Saturday to turn back Ernest McNeill and win the Top Eliminator championship in round six of Rockingham Dragway’s IHRA Summit Super Series ET bracket championships.

Strickland shared the spotlight with Nick Womack of Lillington, who won the Top Eliminator title in Sunday’s round seven, beating Fayetteville’s Lee Desist in the final. Womack regained the season points lead, one point over second-place Strickland.

In the Footbrake class, Angier’s Steve Alford just missed a double when Winston-Salem’s Tom Hettig beat him by a mere .008 of second in the Saturday finals after Alford beat Jonathan Surrat to win on Sunday. Eric Aman of Mt. Olive took the points lead over Rick Terry.

In the hotly-contested Junior Dragster category, Fayetteville’s Noah Johnson won on Saturday and Lewisville’s Robert Vogler beat Whiteville’s Rayce Blackmon on Sunday. Vogler, the defending Rockingham Jr. Dragster champion, maintains a 10-point lead.

NICK WOMACK, ERIC AMAN AND ROBERT VOGLER LEAD ROCK POINTS SERIES

Nick Womack, winner of Sunday’s IHRA Summit Super Series event, maintained his lead in Top Eliminator, Eric Aman wrestled the Footbrake lead away from Roger Rhoades and Jr. Dragster defending champ Robert Vogler maintained his lead.

Womack, a second generation racer from Lillington, briefly surrendered his points lead to Saturday’s winner Tommy Strickland. Collecting only 3 entry points on Saturday and not even winning one round, Womack came roaring back on Sunday, winning every round of competition and collecting the maximum ten points. He enjoys a one-point advantage over Strickland with Eric Aman and Holden Dial tied for third.

Aman went four rounds in Footbrake during Saturday’s event and ended Sunday in the quarter final round, gaining enough to pass points leader Roger Rhodes. Rhodes slipped to a tie with Wesley Roberts for third-place in points, only one behind second place Rick Terry. Leader Aman has 47 points.

Defending Jr. Dragster champion Vogler did not attend Saturday’s event, enjoying an eleven points lead. He didn’t lose much ground as he won Sunday’s event and maintains a ten-point lead with 46 over Saturday’s winner, Noah Johnson. Dawson Wiggins trails Johnson by one-point at 35.
