LOWE, TEACHEY,
BUTLER WIN TOP E.T.
TITLES AT THE ROCK
ROCKINGHAM –
Raeford’s David Lowe
made a narrow .003
of a second starting
line advantage hold
up for a final round
victory over St.
Paul’s William
Brewer Sunday to win
the Top ET
championship on the
final day of the
Yuengling Carolina
Power Fest 2 at
Rockingham Dragway.
Lowe coupled a .006
of a second reaction
time with a time of
6.380 against a
target time of
6.360. Whitley
answered with a
solid .009 of a
second reaction and
a 6.760 against a
6.740 target in one
of the closest
finals of the
weekend.
Other winners in the
premier bracket
category were Barry
Teachey II of
Beulaville and Bryan
Butler of Donald,
S.C. Teachey, at the
wheel of a 1964 Ford
Falcon, beat Eric
Thomas of Fairmont
in a rare all-door
car final round on
Saturday while
Butler got the
opening win on
Friday.
One of the most
impressive single
runs of the weekend
was that turned in
by Junior Dragster
driver Nick Weaver
of Sanford in
Sunday’s third
round. Weaver
coupled a .001
reaction time with a
track time of 8.456
on an 8.450 target –
a .007 package.
Unfortunately, he
pushed the Tree a
little too far in
the semifinals and
lost to eventual
Junior champ Kaylee
Creech of Clayton.
Creech not only
ruined Weaver’s day,
she did the same to
fellow Claytonite
Blane Parrish when
she beat him in
Sunday’s final,
denying Parrish a
double after he had
won the first Junior
race on Saturday.
Footbrake winners
were Brandon White
of Hillsville, Va.
(Sunday), Wesley
Roberts of Benson
(Saturday) and Art
Laselle of
Fayetteville
(Friday).
In the Friday
Footbrake final,
Laselle ran dead-on
his 6.620 target
number. So did rival
David Sears of Holly
Spring, who ran
5.960 on a 5.960.
The difference?
Laselle’s .055
reaction time to
.061 for Sears,
producing a final
margin of just .006
of a second.
320 competitors
competed in the Tony
Saraceno produced
Powerfest 2 and
plans are underway
for the 2015
Powerfest 3.
The focus shifts
back to two wheels
this week at The
Rock with the
running of the Lee’s
Performance Center
World Finals,
concluding event in
the 2014 MIRock
Superbike Series.
