RAIN FRUSTRATES RIDERS FROM 17 STATES AT MIROCK SERIES OPENER     For the second time in three years, rain washed out the elimination phase of Sunday’s Adams Performance Spring Open, forcing Rockingham Dragway track owner Steve Earwood to postpone completion of the opening event in the 2014 Mickey Thompson Performance MIRock Superbike Series until August. Rain and cold left 367 motorcycle riders and crews from 17 states, the District of Columbia and the island nations of Aruba, St. Eustatius and Curacao, disappointed. After a single round of racing on Sunday, weather forced the suspension of competition. The purse was split among those remaining in the FBR Shop 5.60, Cycle Connection Crazy 8s and TracKing Top Sportsman categories. Racing in the pro classes will continue in conjunction with the Aug. 15-17 FBR Shop Summer Sizzler, Earwood said. Riders in the Nitrous Express Pro ET and Brocks Performance Street ET classes will receive a one-day free entry to the August race. Before the rain, former series champion “Turbo Johnny” Dobrin of Sarasota, Fla., was upset in the first round of DME Real Street and perennial Rockingham winner Jeremy Teasley of Columbus, Ohio, was ousted in Orient Express Pro Street. Reigning Pro Street champ Joey Gladstone of Townsend, Del., was theNo. 1 qualifier in Pro Street with a time of 6.987 seconds and 201.14 miles per hour. Mooresville’s “Super Dave” Stewart claimed No. 1 in Real Street with a time of 7.869 seconds at 184.35 mph. In addition to qualifying, Saturday’s program crowned Pro and Street ET champions. Dustin Lee of Morristown, Tenn., won the Pro ET title when Michael Herman Jr. of Woodbridge, Va., missed his target number by .008 of a second and was DQed. In Street ET, Ron Arnold of Bowling Green, Ky., upset veteran Boo Brown of Potomac Falls, Va., by .01 of a second.
