VARNER, RAY AMONG WINNERS AT 23rd MOPARS AT THE ROCK EVENT

Stanley’s Billy Varner Jr. claimed the $1,200 top prize Saturday when David Keels of Matthews fouled out by .001 of a second in the Top ET final round at the 23rd annual Mopars at the Rock all-Chrysler event at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway.

Other bracket winners Saturday were J.W. Ray of Winston-Salem and Davey Emanuel of Laurinburg in the Footbrake and Trophy classes, respectively.

The event celebrated all things Mopar with a car show, swap meet and an exhibition involving hemi-powered Super Stock cars.  Among the cars that reached the quarterfinal round in Top ET were a pair of 1972 Plymouths – Jim Chandler’s Duster and Lynn Baldwin’s Roadrunner.

Eric Hultburg’s vintage 1965 Plymouth Valiant was runner-up to Ray’s 1970 Dodge Challenger in Footbrake.
