STANTON STREAKS TO PDRA EXTREME PRO MOD VICTORY AT THE ROCK     ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Todd Martin set the early pace and Frankie Taylor unloaded the run of the year but, in the end, Bubba Stanton left with the money and the hardware Sunday in the inaugural PDRA Spring Open at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway with a dominating race day performance. Stanton, who was in the other lane Saturday night when Taylor became the first to break the 3.50 barrier at the eighth mile distance (3.485 seconds), didn’t get a rematch on Sunday because Taylor, the veteran from Dickinson, Texas, was sent home in round one by Kuwait-based Anthony DiSomma in the biggest upset of the year. With Taylor headed home, Stanton beat John Stanley of Hagerstown, Md., Joey Martin of Milton, Fla., and Todd Martin of Oklahoma City, Okla., before getting a free ride to the winners’ circle when final round opponent Mick Snyder of Demotte, Ind., had mechanical problems and was forced to abort his run. Stanton’s 1969 Chevy, which “settled” for the No. 2 qualifying spot at 3.514 seconds, ran flawlessly on Sunday until the final, when it simply had to motor down the track in a pedestrian 5.584 seconds at 96.78 miles per hour to get the money. Before that, Stanton was clocked in 3.530, 3.532 and 3.539 seconds, low ET of every round. Among the other Sunday winners was Jason Harris of Pittsboro, N.C., who became the first Pro Nitrous driver to break the 200 mile an hour barrier before extending his Rockingham Dragway winning streak to two straight races with a final round victory over Tommy Franklin of Fredericksburg, Va., one of the founders of the PDRA. Todd Tutterow of Yadkinville, N.C., was the Pro Boost winner, two-time former ADRL champion Cary Goforth of Holdenville, Okla., prevailed in Extreme Pro Stock and 2012 ADRL champion Eric McKinney of Hamersville, Ohio, claimed the Pro Extreme Motorcycle crown.
