DOBBINS GRABS $10,000 TOP PRIZE AT POWERFEST 3
Second Generation Driver Does His Dad One Better at Rockingham Dragway

ROCKINGHAM – Second generation driver Jeffery Dobbins II of Wilmington marched through one of the largest fields in Rockingham Dragway bracket racing history Saturday to win the $10,000 feature at Tony Saraceni’s Yuengling-sponsored Powerfest 3.

After settling for runner-up honors in Top ET on Friday, Dobbins outlasted a field of 198 Saturday, winning 10 rounds in his dragster, the last at the expense of Brian Thompson of Sneads Ferry whom he pushed into a breakout foul with a .008 reaction time.

Other big winners were Will Holloman, who claimed the $5,000 top money on Friday and W.G. Lankas of Sneads Ferry, who got the final $5,000 with his Top ET win over Nashville’s Phillip Bullock on Sunday.

Footbrake winners were Jamie Carroll of Clayton, Steve Alford of Angier and Tommy Lumley of Charlotte on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Each claimed a $2,000 prize. Jr. Dragster winners were Taylor Dial of Kinston and Connor Caulder of St. Pauls.

Although Dobbins’ father, Jeff Sr., earned two Pro Stock victories on the IHRA pro tour, he never won at The Rock where his best showing was a runner-up finish at the 2002 IHRA World Finals. His tour victories came at Richmond, Va. In 2002 and Toronto, Canada in 2003.

Over the course of the three-day event, Dobbins won 22 out of possible 29 rounds. He lost in the fifth round on Sunday when Cam Clark of Reidsville ran dead-on to win by .004 of a second.

Lumley got a free ride to Sunday’s Footbrake title when final round opponent Casey Simms was guilty of a foul start by .001 of a second.
